I Shall Not Want
Psalm 23: 1-4
"The Lord is my Shepard, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures: He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul : He leads me in the way of righteousness for His name's sake. Yea, thou I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and staff they comfort me."
This has always been one of my favorite verses in Psalms. It reminds me that no matter what is going on in my life, and no matter how hard a situation may be, God is in control. We, as His children, have absolutely nothing to worry about. As long as we are living our lives for Him, we will want for nothing. Things may not be easy, and we may feel like we just aren't "living up to The Jone's", but our every need will be met.
I get caught up sometimes with feeling less of a person because nearly everyone I associate with has a nicer home than I do. I honestly do not know of anyone my age who lives in a home older than 15 years old. All my friends and acquaintances live in these newer homes, excellent curb appeal, new furnishings, and decorated like you wouldn't believe. I often feel sad and embarrassed, to the point that I really just cant stand the thought of any of those people coming to my home.
However, we are truly blessed to even have a home to live in! We may not own it, but it is a roof over our heads and meets our immediate needs! It really could be so much worse, and for that I am thankful!
I think we often forget just how blessed we are! We may not have what others have. We may not get the things we want to fill up our lives to appear like a pretty little package on the outside. But, I know in my heart that no matter how our home may appear to others, its filled with love, God's love, and that's all that matters.
I'd much rather have our humble home, and live a righteous life, than have a fancy home that fills our life with pride.
In the end, it doesn't matter what you have as long as you've got what you need. Be thankful for what the Lord has given you. Why? Because there's always someone who has less than you.
